Sherman Fairchild Conference Funding in the Sciences

Funding availability for 2014-15 is TBD

The Sherman Fairchild Foundation provides funding for student conference travel for students pursuing work in biology, chemistry, geology, neuroscience, and/or physics who have participated in Bryn Mawr's Summer Science Research Program. Students are required to present their research to be eligible for this award, either as a poster or as a panel presentation.


All students studying in the fields listed above who have participated in Bryn Mawr's Summer Science Research Program are eligible for this conference funding (this includes participating Haverford students). For graduating seniors, the conference must take place prior to commencement.

Award Amount:

The grant will provide student funding for conference travel up to $1000. Students will be required to provide a budget of their anticipated expenses.

Below is a sample itemized budget.  When submitting your budget, list your expense descriptions and their corresponding amounts.  If unsure of the actual amount, please provide a researched estimate.


Total amount requested: $881.50

  • Roundtrip airfare (Philly-San Diego) - $325*
  • SEPTA tickets Bryn Mawr to PHL Airport (2 rides x $5.75) - $11.50
  • Roundtrip taxi/shuttle (airport to hotel) - $40
  • Poster printing fees - $90
  • Conference registration fee - $75
  • Meals ($30 per day x 3 days) - $90
  • Hotel ($125 x 2 days) - $250

*Please take into consideration taking the most cost-effective form of transportation.

Payment Schedule:

While applications are accepted on a rolling basis, conference travel awards are processed according to the College Academic Year Fellowship Payment Schedule. Please click here for this schedule. Once the Dean's Office receives all application materials, the review process will take about 2 weeks.
