Every new Bryn Mawr student is assigned a dean before she even arrives at the College as a freshman or transfer student. Your dean can help you make the transition from high school to college and think through your choice of major. She or he can also talk with you about moving beyond Bryn Mawr, whether you are looking for employment or applying to graduate school. What is more, deans are not just academic advisers. Students can talk with their deans about coping with homesickness, handling roommate problems, or managing extra-curricular activities. Finally, your dean is not only interested in helping you through difficulties but is also eager to hear about your accomplishments, both large and small.
The deans work closely with many other offices and groups on campus, including Residential Life, the Health Center, Counseling Services, the hall advisers, the Career Development Office, the Self Government Association, the Registrar's Office, and the academic departments in order to ensure that students are able to access the resources they need. Your dean may frequently refer you to another staff member on campus and may help facilitate that consultation.
To make an appointment with your dean, please call the receptionist in the Dean’s Office at (610)526-5375 or stop by the main office on the second floor of Taylor Hall.
When you arrive for your appointment, please knock on your dean's door to let him or her know that you have arrived. You do not need to check-in at the main office, unless you are scheduled for a meeting with Dean Tidmarsh.
If you have a brief question which any dean can answer or if you have a time-sensitive issue which requires a quick reply, there is a walk-in hour every day of the week from3:30 to 4:30. Just come to the main Dean's Office, and the receptionist will direct you to the dean who is having walk-in hours that day.
