In addition, Dean Raima Evan, chair of the Independent Majors Committee, will talk about what the committee looks for in an independent major proposal.
Choosing and Planning a Major
2 times: Thursday, September 19, 6:30 – 8:00 pm OR Friday, September 20, 3:30 – 5:00 pm
**Please note that the Friday, Sept. 20 session will be held in Taylor F.**
Deciding what major is right for you is a big decision, and brings with it many other decisions as well. Minors, concentrations, double majors: these options can add flexibility, but can make the whole situation more confusing. At this session, you’ll hear from a dean, a professor, and one or more upperclasswomen as they discuss some of their perspectives and experiences. You’ll also hear how the Sophomore Planning Process help structure your thinking and planning. President Kim Cassidy will provide the professor perspective at the Thursday, September 19 session. Dr. Louisa Egan-Brad of the Psychology department will provide the professor perspective at the Friday, September 20 session. Katie Krimmel, Associate Dean in the Center for Leadership, Innovation and the Liberal Art, will also join the panel on Thursday and Friday.

Preparing for Future Opportunities
Thursday, October 24 7:00-8:30pm
You’ve heard about fellowships on campus that pay you to do independent research, and about national fellowships that give you money for study abroad or graduate study or even independent travel. But you don’t know what’s involved or how to start preparing. Come hear juniors and seniors who have successfully navigated the fellowships journey before you! Dean Michelle Mancini, who works on a variety of fellowships, and Dean Vanessa Christman of the Pensby Center and Coordinator for the Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship will lead the discussion.
