Matthew Weinberg joined the department in 2010. Matt received a BA degree with honors from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign in 2001 and a PhD from Princeton University in 2007. Prior to arriving at Bryn Mawr he was a postdoctoral researcher at Cornell University and an assistant professor at the University of Georgia. He has also served as a staff economist at the U.S. Federal Trade Commission. His research largely focuses on examinations of the impact of government programs, consumer behavior, and antitrust policy. Topics include: 1) the effects of horizontal mergers on prices, 2) whether empirical models of oligopoly accurately forecast the effects of mergers on prices, and 3) whether individuals claiming social security benefits smooth their consumption over the pay-cycle. He has published in several academic journals and serves on the board of editors of Managerial and Decision Economics.
