Certification for Social Studies education

Citizenship Education: Students must major in history, political science, or economics. Political Science majors must take at least four courses outside of their major distributed between history and economics. Economics majors must take at least six courses outside their major distributed between history and political science. In fulfilling these requirements, students must include the following in their course programs (note that one course can fulfill more than one of the above requirements):

Social Science: Open to students majoring in anthropology, sociology, or psychology. Students must take four courses outside their major in the other two areas of study included in this certification. Students must include the following in their course programs (note that one course may address more than one of the following):

Social Studies: The broadest of the three options, this certification is open to students majoring in history, political science, sociology, anthropology, or economics. Some interdisciplinary independent majors are accepted as well. Students must complete the following requirements. Students are also required to take at least four courses outside their major in the other social sciences.
