Position:Climate Change Initiative (CCI) Philadelphia – Volunteer Program Associate
Location: Philadelphia area
Duration: Winter/Spring Semester, beginning January, 2009
Position description:
The CCI Philadelphia Volunteer Program Associate will assist the William J. Clinton Foundation with generating scalable greenhouse gas reduction projects in the Philadelphia area in practical and measurable ways. The Intern will work closely with CCI’s Philadelphia City Director and other members of the Foundation’s Climate Team to research and produce prospect research documents and analytical models related to environmental and carbon emissions related areas, with special emphasis in areas such as energy efficiency building retrofits, clean energy, transportation, etc.
We seek a highly motivated, entrepreneurial individual with outstanding analytical and communication skills. The Intern must be able to function independently and flexibly and have strong research skills and a commitment to excellence. The position will be based in the Philadelphia area with limited travel in the region expected.
Responsibilities:
• Conduct in-depth prospect research of large-scale buildings in Philadelphia sorted by age, ownership detail, square footage, energy sources, sustainability/carbon neutral commitment, etc.
• Identify and engage with regional building and related professional organizations that serve sustainability efforts in following sectors: healthcare, hotels, commercial, museums, K-12/Higher Ed, industrial/cold storage facilities, etc.
• Explore aggregated demand opportunities for deployment of product discounts in building technologies and transportation arenas;
• Conduct inventory of local GHG reduction projects to avoid duplication of efforts and explore partnership opportunities for large-scale projects.
• Research and identify local financial institutions with strong community investment and interest in energy efficiency centered lending
• Conduct research and analysis to support local implementation of additional GHG reduction projects as opportunities emerge
Qualifications:
• Exceptional problem solving skills and analytical capabilities
• Strong written communication skills
• Excellent quantitative and qualitative research skills
• Ability to work independently on large, demanding projects
• High level of proficiency in relevant computer applications.
Advantages:
• An advanced degree in economics, environmental studies, urban planning, and/or engineering is beneficial
• Strong research and writing skills are necessary along with the ability to work effectively on time-sensitive projects with limited oversight, along with a willingness to complete general administrative support tasks outside of your program team responsibilities.
