BRYN MAWR COLLEGE
Committee on Appointments
October 27, 2000
The purpose of this memo is to inform you about the distributing and
collecting of Teaching Evaluations for Semester I, 2000-2001.
The Registrar will provide the Provost's Office with registration lists
for all courses below the level of 398-399. The Provost's Office will make
up evaluation forms for all of these classes. They will be sent in
separate envelopes (one for each course) to the office where the faculty
members get their mail, by Monday, November 13. It is the faculty member's
responsibility to pick up the forms in this office and to see that they are
distributed in their classes.
Each faculty member has the option to invite one of the students in the
class to administer the evaluations or, if he/she chooses, may contact a
major representative as before to arrange a day on which they can come to
the class. Either way, the faculty member will bring the forms to class
and give them to the designated student, who will distribute and collect
them. The student returns the completed forms to the same departmental
office where the faculty member picked them up. All evaluations should be
administered during the last two weeks of class. Please choose a day when
attendance is likely to be high.
Departmental secretaries will take responsibility for returning the
completed forms to Barbara Burns, Provost's Office-first floor-Taylor Hall.
You may pick up the completed forms after grades for the courses have been
turned in to the Registrar.
Insert a copy of the syllabus for each course after you have retrieved and
opened each envelope. Keep the evaluations in their original envelopes for
submission to your department chair and/or the Committee on Appointments
the next time you are reviewed.
You may administer your own evaluations in addition to the standardized
institutional form. For the purpose of institutional review, it is
important to have consistent information from course to course and year to
year, as provided by the standardized form.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact any member of the
Committee. The members for 2001-02 are Peter Briggs, Chair, Committee on Appointments, Sharon Burgmayer, Jane Caplan, Maria Cristina Quintero, and x.
