In Summer 2003, I worked part-time as a student intern at the Bryn Mawr Theater Film Institute, now the Bryn Mawr Film Institute. The non-profit institute is designed to renovate the Bryn Mawr town movie theater and turn it into a community focal point with first run, art house, and educational programming. (The local area colleges, including Bryn Mawr and Haverford, would be able to use the space for their film class screenings, incidentally.) Most of my time was spent minding the office and creating a database of potential donors, but I also volunteered at their formal spring fundraiser last year.
Although many different things interest me, I hope to do something with media production after graduation. I am specifically considering eventually pursuing production design and/or writing.
My thesis is film related. I am writing an exhibition-focused study of the way in which "audience participation" in the 1975 midnight movie The Rocky Horror Picture Show influences the audience's gender identification. I got the idea after filming a documentary about Bryn Mawr's fall 2004 reenactment of RHPS, which uses a live, all-female cast (of course, being Bryn Mawr) to recreate the screen images while the movie plays simultaneously.
