Janet Doner received her M.A. degree from
Edinburgh University, Scotland, her Ph.D. from the
University of Pennsylvania, and joined the Bryn
Mawr Faculty in the Fall of 1985. She served as
director of the Intensive Program for Language
Instruction in French from 1986 until December 2006
and taught the upper-level stylistics course as
well as the intensive language sequence. She also
developed "Le Rire" a 200-level thematic course. A
specialist in Medieval French Literature (Arthurian
Romance) she has published articles in Romance
Philology, Neophilologus, Medium Aevum, and
Arthuriana, her most recent work focusing on
illuminated manuscripts. She was recipient of the
Christian R. and Mary F. Lindback Foundation Award
for Distinguished Teaching in 1994, and the
American Association of Teachers of French
Excellence in Teaching Award, Postsecondary in
1999.
