We visited an active coal stripping operated by the Blaschak Coal Corporation near the St. Nicholas coal breaker and cogeneration plant.
This site is in the eastern part of the Southern Anthracite Field in Pennsylvania (see map below).
The active stripping works a coal seam that had been mined underground in the past. In the photo above the surface has been backfilled following coal removal.
