July 2010
Dear Classmates:
It is with great joy that we join to write to you after our glorious, truly
memorable 50th Reunion.
For those of you - an astounding two-thirds of our class - who did make it to the
campus we say thank you for making the effort. For those of you who could
not attend, please know that each and every one of you were missed. Let's
all put the 55th on our calendars NOW!
The highlights of the
50th are available on a DVD for only $10...send a check made out to the Bryn
Mawr Alumnae Association, Att: Molly Scott, 101 N. Merion Avenue, Bryn Mawr, PA
19010. Don't miss this bargain! If you were there, you will love
the memories; if you weren't, you will feel as though you were!
Not only that - you can
see your classmates in the class photo (and we all were standing upright!) for
only $15 plus shipping…order at http://aurora.smugmug.com/Other/BMC2010.
You can view the photo on the website before you order it. What an
awesome collection of women of which we are all so proud to be a part.
Our Reunion Managers
kept us busy throughout the weekend. You can go to the class website (http://www.brynmawr.edu/geology/MLC/1960)
and see the weekend program, photos, and speeches at the Banquet, elected
leaders of the class, and remarks at the beautiful Arbor memorial service at
which 7 families of our deceased classmates were represented.
The Banquet was
extraordinary (with both real and impersonated former Presidents attending!)
and the discussion at our class forum was highly provocative, sharing feelings,
fears and experiences about retirement's challenges.
We will be
communicating for the next couple of years via the Alumnae Association.
You will receive the Bulletin regularly and one class mailing every year.
Our website and email blasts will be the best way to keep in touch. For
those of you who do not have Internet access now but decide to jump on the
bandwagon, PLEASE let us know.
It was a proud moment
at the Alumnae Association meeting Sunday morning when we were able to announce
the amazing percentage of our classmates who participated in our class
giving. Swan and Eunice moved us to an incredible 88% of our classmates
who gave for our 50th Reunion Gift! No other class even came close.
Thanks to all of you! Swan and Eunice certainly know how to appeal to the
power of the purse! We won the $10,000 Ruth Kaiser Nelson Challenge Grant
for the reunion class having the greatest increase in participation over the
last year, and the Derthier Award for the Highest Annual Fund Participation in
2010. The Class's gift to the Annual Fund alone ($305,532) was almost
double the gift we gave in 2009, and our grand reunion total was $1,303,228.79,
handily surpassing our goal of $1,125,000!!! In addition, we fully
endowed the newly established Class of 1960 Student Scholarship Fund for
$111,740, which includes the contributions of several families of our deceased
classmates. Our first scholarship will be awarded in the fall of
2010. WHAT A RECORD!!!!!
We are also posting on
the website the "errata" information for the Reunion Book based on
what classmates told us subsequent to the April 1st mailing.
There are opportunities
to shape our next reunion in 2015. Please contact Polly Huntington (who
did not make the hats but who did make the shortbread owls and madeleines for
the hospitality suite) if you are interested in a mini-reunion between now and
2015. Please let Nancy Morrill know if you would like to help plan and
/or contribute to our next reunion.
Thanks to all who
played a role in the best reunion ever. And thanks to everyone who helped
make the weekend so successful. And to those who sent messages. Or
not. We love you all.
Sincerely,

Sally Davis -Outgoing President Nina Garrett - Incoming
President
