Giving to Bryn Mawr

A renewed opportunity . . .

GIVE WISELY through your IRA

The IRA Charitable Rollover has been extended! If you are 70½ or older, you can transfer (or "roll over") money from your IRA to make a gift to Bryn Mawr without paying tax on the withdrawal. But act now, this opportunity expires at the end of 2011. Here's how the IRA Charitable Rollover works:

  • Through December 31, 2011, you may transfer up to $100,000 directly from your IRA to Bryn Mawr College without having to pay Federal income tax on the IRA withdrawal.
  • The charitable distribution counts toward minimum required distributions.
  • The transfer generates neither taxable income nor a tax deduction, so you benefit even if you do not itemize your tax returns.

To take advantage of this opportunity for tax-wise giving, notify the financial institution that manages your IRA account and direct them to transfer a gift directly to the College.
