Synopsis
The Association of Performing Arts Presenters (APAP) announces the Building Bridges: Campus Community Engagement grants program which supports U.S.-based performing arts presenting organizations interested in building interdisciplinary cross-campus and community collaborations that expand awareness, knowledge and understanding of Muslim societies.
Objectives
Grantees are expected to plan and maximize resources collaboratively with campus-based and external community partners in order to engage targeted populations – with a primary focus on young people born after 1980 (the “millennial” population).
Funds will be used to support projects that are designed to meet the following major goals: 1. Develop and apply campus-based arts-integrated, interdisciplinary and innovative community engagement strategies and resources for specific audiences (including the millennial population of 18-30 year-olds); 2. Develop dynamic initiatives that present contemporary Muslim cultures from abroad or from the various American Muslim communities in the United States through thoughtfully crafted projects; 3. Demonstrate discernible change in knowledge and attitudes about contemporary Muslim culture in communities where there has been limited exposure or where opportunities exist to strengthen and expand existing partnerships and resources; 4. Document, define, and diffuse “best practice,” strategies, and resources that meet the above goals (i.e. to increase exposure and change knowledge and attitudes about contemporary Muslim culture through campus-based interdisciplinary and innovative community engagement strategies with the artist at the center of this process).
Eligibility
Applicants are not required to be current APAP members, but any applicants invited to submit a full application in Round II must become an APAP member. Applicants must be designated as the performing arts presenting organization or presenter for the college or university. Performing Arts Presenter is defined by the sponsor as: Arts presenters form a sector of the performing arts field comprised of a variety of sizes, functions, configurations and artistic and curatorial interests – all of which share the mission of providing opportunities for artists and audiences to share the performing arts through performances, commissioning projects, and education initiatives. For the purpose of this grants program, Arts presenters are expected to develop and implement interdisciplinary partnerships between artists, campus and community partners to create audience engagement opportunities that build knowledge and informed attitudes about contemporary Muslim societies. Although the presenting organization applicant does not need to be physically based on a college or university campus, it must have a formal arrangement with a college or university to provide performing arts programming for the campus. Applications from a consortium of arts presenting organizations will be considered.
Funding
In December 2013 APAP will administer up to eight grants of $100,000-200,000 each for projects up to two-year's in duration. The guideline for budgeting indirect costs is 12% of all the direct costs of the funded project, whether the direct costs are incurred by the grantee or by a subcontractor of the grantee. (sch)

Objectives
The principal mission of the Performing Arts Program is to support organizations of quality in the fields of dance, music, and theater that perform or produce work in New York City. More specifically, the program seeks to: preserve and support New York City’s major performing arts institutions, those organizations of national and international importance that make sustained, significant contributions to the cultural life of the City; support theater companies that have demonstrated a commitment to include the classics in their regular repertory; encourage dance, theater, and music companies and presenters to make their offerings accessible to audiences by placing them in their historical contexts, connecting them to societal concerns, or otherwise contributing to the educational aspects of the aesthetic experience; provide stabilization and project funds for dance companies, especially those that face the challenge of maintaining an active company and of preserving a legacy of past achievements; provide support for music groups committed to performing the contemporary repertory; assist innovative or important projects that address the professional training and development of performing artists, and support the work of artists who, over time, have reinterpreted the traditional elements of dance or theater and thereby have broadened our aesthetic appreciation or understanding.
Eligibility
The sponsor funds "organizations of quality" in New York City that preserve and support the City's major performing arts institutions.
Funding
Endowment contributions will be considered only in cases where the purpose and benefit of the grants are clearly focused. No grants will be made for building campaigns. As a rule the Foundation does not fund indirect costs as components in its grants. (msw)
