STUDENTS' NEWS
CLASSICAL AND NEAR EASTERN ARCHAEGOLOGY
SANDRA LUCORE successfully defended her disserta tion in april 2007.
Sandra wrote her dissertation while a Fellow at the American Academy in Rome in 2005-2007. Sandra's dissertation is titled "The Balaneion in Magna Graecia:Tradition and Innovation in Western Greek Baths."
In 2007-2008 Sandra will be in Greece; she has been awarded
the Oscar Broneer Traveling Fellowship at the American
School of Classical Studies at Athens.
CATHY PERSON has received a Fulbright Grant to attend the American School for Classical Studies in Athens, where she has been accepted into their Regular Member Program for in 2007-2008.
The Regular Program of the American School offers an intensive introduction to and survey of the sites, monuments, history, and archaeology of Greece, from prehistoric times to the present, with a focus on sites dating from the Bronze Age through the Roman period. The program consists of three terms and runs from September to June.

GREEK, LATIN AND CLASSICAL STUDIES
ERIC HUTCHINSON has accepted a position as visiting professor of classics at Hillsdale College in Michigan. In the duration of this two-year position Eric will be helping to teach the general run of courses in Latin, Greek, and classical civilization (for example, Beginning Latin and Greek Mythology). Eric also hopes to have some opportunities to teach Late Antique Literature, the area on which he is focusing for his dissertation.
HISTORY OF ART
BEN ANDERSON is studying Byzantine literature at the Institut für Byzantinistik, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität, Munich. He reports that his Greek and German improve daily and that he has had the chance to travel quite a bit, mostly in south Germany, Austria, and North Italy. Benjamin holds a Graduate Study Scholarship from German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). When he returns to the U.S. in the fall of '07 Ben will begin work on his dissertation on
medieval star maps, in particular, depictions of the cosmos in the early medieval successor
states. His dissertation is being directed by Prof. Dale Kinney.
EMILY BERESKIN has received a grant from German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) to study German in Berlin during the summer of 2007.
MATTHEW FELIZ will be one of two NEH-funded Curatori al Interns in 2007-2008. The first half of Matt's internship (summer '07) will be spent at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, where he will assist with research for an upcoming exhibition on Cezanne. In the second half (Fall ‘07), he will be in the College Collections at Bryn Mawr, working on a little-studied collection of 19th-century French prints.
ROBIN KIM is currently in Madrid doing research for her dissertation.
RUSSIAN
IRINA DUBININA has accepted the position of lecturer in Russian and director of the Russian Language Program at Brandeis University. Irina will teach all levels of Russian. As director of the Russian Language Program she will also manage outreach to the community, supervise student activities in Russian language and culture, run the Russian club, among other duties.
In 2006-07 Irina co-taught two courses in Russian at West Chester University in PA.
EVGENY DENGUB will be teaching the advanced level of Russian at the Russian Summer School in Middlebury College in the summer of 2007.
In spring ’07 Evgeny taught a course on Russian culture (in English) at Temple University.
KENT SOUTHWORTH received a George Kline Fellowship to study in Moscow through American Councils of Teachers of Russian (ACTR).
Kent will be enrolled in a 2-month area studies program at Moscow International Univeristy.
