FOR INFORMATION AND ENROLLMENT:

https://secure.visit-aci.com/insurance/BrynMawr/

Bryn Mawr requires that all graduate students in residence carry health insurance.   This applies to all students, national or international, in the following categories:

(1) students enrolled in courses and seminars;
(2) TAs and GAs, whether enrolled in courses or not;
(3) students using BMC facilities on a regular basis (e.g., students registered for units of supervised work or continuing enrollment who regularly use Bryn Mawr's labs or libraries for research);

(4) students living on campus.

U.S. citizens or permanent residents can meet the requirement by enrolling in Bryn Mawr's Student Health Insurance Program for Graduate and Postbaccalaureate Students (= G-SHIP); or they can provide proof of comparable coverage by another insurer.  Note that in the second case the G-SHIP must be officially waived, as it is the default plan for all students who are citizens and permanent residents.  The Bryn Mawr College Health Center is the primary care provider for the G-SHIP.  Visits to other doctors may be covered if they are in the G-SHIP network or upon referral by the Health Center.

For international students, Bryn Mawr offers the International Student Health Insurance Plan (= I-SHIP) that covers treatment for sickness or injury only.  Students who pay the additional Bryn Mawr College Health Center fee will be able to receive routine care at the Health Center.  International students wishing to waive the I-SHIP must provide proof of comparable coverage that is approved by the College Health Center.  Instructions for waiving I-SHIP will be provided at the orientation for international students between August 26 and 29.

All incoming graduate students will be automatically enrolled in G-SHIP or I-SHIP as appropriate and, unless they obtain a waiver, they will be required to pay the associated premiums.  You will soon receive a mailing from Special Risk Consultants, Inc. that describes these plans, and how to opt out of them.

If you wish to opt out, you must do so online at http://www.enrollment.visit-aci.com/brynmawr/ before September 7, 2007.  After September 7 your enrollment in G-SHIP or I-SHIP is final and cannot be terminated, whether or not you have other insurance.

The cost of health insurance premiums will be billed to students by Bryn Mawr and will be payable to Bryn Mawr College.  Students whose financial aid package includes a subsidy for health insurance will receive the subsidy as a credit against their account with the BMC Comptroller's office.  They will be responsible for paying the balance.  Students without subsidies will have to pay the full cost of any premiums.

In 2007-2008 the cost of the G-SHIP is $2,460 ($1,230 per semester), which includes insurance premiums and the fee for the Bryn Mawr College Health Center. The cost of G-SHIP is billed in two installments, one each semester.  Monthly payments can be arranged through the Comptroller's Office, (610) 526-5265.  For international students, the cost of I-SHIP is $1,104, billed at the beginning of the Fall semester.  This insurance covers accident and sickness only.  For an additional $370, international students may also use all the services of Bryn Mawr's Health Center.
