Supplemental Summer Support

The Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS) offers Supplemental Summer Research Fellowships (SSRF) and additional Research Assistantships (RA) to provide enhanced support for graduate students pursuing their academic endeavors during the summer months.

Who may apply?

  • SSRF: All continuing students who receive a Fellowship, Teaching Assistantship, or Graduate Assistantship during this academic year may apply for SSRF (up to $4,000 per student for Summer 2024) to support their research and academic activities, such as conducting research activities toward their degree, taking a language course required by their graduate program, participating in a fieldwork project, and presenting research at a conference.
  • RA: Continuing students who assist in faculty research activities and/or undergraduate student research mentoring may apply for RA support (up to 2,500 per student for Summer 2024) in addition to SSRF.
  • Not eligible to apply: Students who will not return to Bryn Mawr for Fall 2024 as a current, actively enrolled student.

How do I apply?

If you are interested in applying for SSRF and/or RA, please complete the GSAS Supplemental Summer Support Application by March 15, 2024.

  • The SSRF application requires a PDF file of a 250-word essay with the signature of the faculty member who approved the application. The essay should describe summer research and/or academic projects to be supported, providing information on academic goals, planned activities with a timeline, and the impacts of the proposed projects on academic progress toward the degree.  Additionally, if summer plans include conferences, fieldwork, or summer courses, proof of acceptance and a travel plan with a budget breakdown should be provided as supporting materials.
  • The RA application requires a PDF file of a 250-word essay signed by the RA supervisor. The essay should provide the RA job description, estimated weekly working hours to assist faculty research activities and/or undergraduate student research mentoring (up to 20 hours per week), and estimated total RA working hours for the summer (up to 120 hours).
