Bryn Mawr College Counseling Service

Insurance Information

Recent changes in health insurance law will have an effect on all insurance plans.  Here is some information which will help you understand insurance here at Bryn Mawr College.

Insurance Basics

Primary Insurance:  All claims go through this insurance policy first.

Secondary insurance:  This insurance policy picks up where the primary insurance leaves off.   If a claim is rejected by the primary insurance or is only partially paid, the secondary insurance may pay for any uncovered amount.

If you are a domestic student and you have insurance through your parents that is your primary insurance.  The college insurance plan is secondary.  If you do not have insurance through your parents, the college plan is your primary insurance.

If you are an international student, you have international student insurance through the college, which is primary.  The regular undergraduate insurance through the college is your secondary insurance.

Counseling

The cost of counseling services can now be covered by insurance.  As always, your first six counseling visits at the Health Center are free.  After that, visits cost $75.

If you have insurance through your parents, you may submit the receipts for those visits to your parents’ insurance company for reimbursement.   You can submit any remaining charges to the college insurance with a copy of the explanation of benefits from your parents’ insurance.

If you are an international student, you may submit the receipts for those visits to the international student insurance plan for reimbursement.

If you do not have insurance through your parents, you may submit the receipts for those visits to the college plan for reimbursement.

If you have insurance through your parents, bills must first be submitted to your parents insurance before they can be submitted to the college insurance plan.
