The Katharine Houghton Hepburn Center fosters the trailblazing spirit that has defined Bryn Mawr since it was founded. That spirit is exemplified by the two alumnae it honors, four-time-Oscar-winning actress Katharine Hepburn and her mother, Katharine Houghton Hepburn, an early feminist activist.
The Center sponsors undergraduate internships and campus programs addressing important and timely issues for women around the globe. Every two years, the Center hosts the Hepburn Medal ceremony, a lifetime achievement award by Bryn Mawr College to women artists and activists who have transformed their worlds.
Bryn Mawr College is proud to honor acclaimed musician, writer and visual artist Patti Smith with the 2013 Hepburn Medal. Smith accepted the medal in a ceremony at Goodhart Hall on Feb. 7, 2013.
