Internship: Arden Theatre Company, Philadelphia, PA

My Hepburn Internship with the Arden Theatre Company was a really great experience. I learned a lot about theatre, and a good deal about working for a non-profit. During my internship, I had the opportunity to engage in a number of activities in virtually every department the theatre has to offer. I worked in development, learning about grant writing, fundraising, event planning, and making contacts with local businesses. I worked in education, assisting at the Arden Summer Camp and writing a study guide for the Arden’s fall production of The History Boys. I had the chance to sit in on artistic meetings, work on set construction, and learn about the daily tasks involved in running a theatre. This internship also greatly complemented my education at Bryn Mawr. I was able to develop my research and writing skills, and use the skills I have in creative ways. Amy Murphy, former Hepburn Fellow and Managing Director of the Arden, also served as inspiration to me as a successful woman who has made an important and lasting contribution to art in the city of Philadelphia. I’m really thankful to The Katharine Houghton Hepburn Center and Bryn Mawr College for making this wonderful and enriching summer possible for me.
