Internship: TransAfrica Forum
TransAfrica Forum was a perfect fit for my first internship. I was able to learn about policy advocacy in conjunction with public outreach. There were many events targeted at increasing the public’s awareness of policies that are aimed at far-off nations but have an effect domestically. I found the focus on making connections to be an effective “teaching aid,” creating a space for further investigation. Each event increased the breadth of my knowledge and allowed me to learn about facilitating film festivals, panel discussions and book readings. I had opportunities to research new topics and write policy briefs while also getting a clear view of the inner-workings of a non-profit organization. It was a very valuable experience that will resonate in my academic path and extra-curricular activities.
