I have had an amazing experience through this internship. I was assigned to different units throughout my internship, undergoing rotations in the Out-patient Department, The Maternity (Labor Ward), Theatre, The Antenatal Clinic, The Reproductive Children’s Health (Postnatal Clinic) and the Family Planning Clinic. The combined clinical and public health experience was particularly educative since I had the opportunity to observe various vibrant programs and take an active part in the day-to-day activities, educating clients and interacting with health personnel. I was also exposed to the diverse challenges faced in successfully running the public health programs that I participated in. My experiences ranged from assisting in deliveries to administering vaccinations and immunizations, charting and recording new clients’ medical history to home visits in neighboring villages to educate clients and address their health concerns. The opportunity to observe the unique opportunities and setbacks that a rural-based hospital experiences provided me with a multitude of skills in addressing the various health concerns that I faced every day. Through the encouragement and collaboration with the various health personnel that worked with at the hospital, I learnt a lot and enjoyed the internship immensely.
