Internship: White Dog Community Enterprises, Philadelphia, PA
My summer internship with White Dog Community Enterprises was incredibly rewarding. I worked specifically for Fair Food, a project of WDCE dedicated to bringing locally grown food into the Philadelphia marketplace and promoting a humane, sustainable agriculture for the Greater Philadelphia region. My internship entailed working at the Fair Food Farmstand in the Reading Terminal Market, and coordinating a series of summer and fall farm tours that are designed to highlight local farms as a means of better connecting farmstand staff and customers to the people and places that produce their food. I loved visiting local farms and learning from the farmers, trying out new produce from the farmstand each week, and eagerly planning these special local food events with my co-workers. My internship was a great balance of practical office work, and hands-on experiences on farms and at the farmstand.
I love the fact that Bryn Mawr, and the Katharine Houghton Hepburn Center, made my wonderful summer possible. One of the absolute best parts of my Bryn Mawr experience is the support both emotional and financial that I have received from the institution to pursue my interests. Through internships sponsored by the Dean's Office and the Katharine Houghton Hepburn Center, my Bryn Mawr academic education has been invaluably enriched by the experiential education I have received over the summers. I love the fact that the school has encouraged and aided me to form partnerships with inspirational women and organizations.
