Assistant Director of Field Education

Part Time (26 hours/week); 12-month administrative appointment

Position Reports To:  Director of Field Education

In conjunction with the Director of Field Education, responsible for administration and coordination with others in the operation of the Office of Field Education at Bryn Mawr College GSSWSR. The Assistant Director of Field Education works collaboratively with the Director to ensure that students' field experiences are in alignment with CSWE accreditation standards.

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

Contribute to the development and evaluation of new and continuing field agency settings.

Conduct placement planning meetings with entering and continuing students.

Contribute to the orientation of new and continuing Field Liaisons.

Assist in orientation of entering and continuing students to Field Education expectations and the field placement process.

Placement of GSSWSR students in suitable social work internships in agency settings.

Advise students experiencing conflict and adjustment difficulties in field education.

Provide consultation to Field Liaisons in the development of viable alternative placement plans, where needed, and in the development of plan for students experiencing difficulty in developing identified competencies.

With the Director, co-teach and contribute to curriculum renewal and development of the Seminar in Field Instruction (SIFI) for new field instructors.

Review, revise, and approve employment-based (“worksite”) field education plans.

Serve as member on School Committees as assigned.

Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Assist in evaluating Field Liaison performance and Field Instructor experience, qualifications and credentials.

REQUIREMENTS:

Strong identification with the purposes and values of the social work profession.

Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with a diverse student body, faculty, and staff and to engage meaningfully with established and prospective field agency settings.

Familiarity with human service agencies and organizations within the Greater Philadelphia and surrounding counties, NJ, DE area.

Ability to be organized, pay attention to detail, and prioritize workload according to volume and urgency

Comprehensive knowledge of social work education and practice.

Extensive knowledge and skills in supervision and field instruction.

Knowledge of field educational needs of professional community.

Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, demonstrating effective time management skills.

Strong administrative, organizational, written and verbal communication skills as well as computer competencies, e.g. Word, Excel, college-based instructional software systems.

EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

M.S.S. (Master of Social Service) or M.S.W. (Master of Social Work) from a CSWE accredited School of Social Work plus minimum of 6 years post M.S.S./M.S.W direct practice experience, including 3 years of relevant supervisory and administrative experience.  Relevant experience in field education or related area(s) of social work education, and relevant experience in providing training to practitioners. Experience in a college or university setting preferred.
