The Bryn Mawr College Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research invites applications for a full-time position as Director of Field Education to start in June of 2013. This position reports to the Dean and works closely with faculty and other staff, both within the School, the College and the community. The Director of Field Education must be prepared to serve as the primary link with the practice community and is responsible for ensuring that the 2008 Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) Educational Policy and Accreditation Standards (EPAS) are reflected throughout all activities of the School as s/he manages the placement of approximately 180 master’s students in both clinical and policy and advocacy concentrations. S/he is also responsible for securing new field placement sites and maintaining relationships with existing sites; participating in local, regional, and national field instruction organizations; and collaborating with the larger College community in areas that include civic engagement. The Director of Field Education supervises an assistant director of field education and field instruction liaisons and, oversees the curriculum of field education seminars.
Qualifications: All candidates must have a minimum of a master’s degree in social work and five years post-master’s experience that includes supervisory and organizational expertise. Preference given to individuals with previous experience as a field educator and/or previous work in a social work education program’s field education office, and employment in a graduate social work program. Successful candidates will also be familiar with diverse models of field instruction and multiple approaches to learning and possess effective interpersonal and leadership skills, with the ability to effectively interact with others both within and outside of academia. S/he will possess strong mediation and assessment skills; be knowledgeable about the relevant literature; and have the capacity to identify with both the student and the field instructor experience.
