Major Gifts Officer, Resources (Development)

Position Objective

This position reports to the Director of Major Gifts.  Responsible for the discovery, cultivation and solicitation of individuals who are prospects for gifts of at least $50,000.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and manage cultivation and solicitation of a select portfolio of approximately 200 individuals – prospects and suspects – for significant support of the College, along with a mix of alumnae/i of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, Graduate School of Social Works and Social Research, undergraduate alumnae, parents, and friends.
  • Act as representative of Bryn Mawr College to articulate the mission, current developments and future plans to alumnae/i, parents, and friends.
  • Work in coordination with the Director of Major Gifts and Director of Prospect Management to identify and qualify potential new major gift prospects for gifts of at least $50,000.  After visiting, and consulting with the Director of Major Gifts, formulate and implement fundraising strategies for prospects.   The expectation is a minimum of 120 visits per year.
  • Coordinate with administrators – particularly the dean of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences – faculty and volunteers in the cultivation and solicitation process.
  • Prepare proposals and presentations as appropriate and needed.
  • Coordinate with the stewardship office in the design and implementation of stewardship activities for assigned prospects.
  • Prepare reports for colleagues and volunteers as needed.

Requirements

  • The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree, with a graduate degree preferred.
  • Minimum of five years experience in development/alumni relations, with no less than three years of demonstrable experience soliciting gifts of $50,000+, preferably in an institution of higher education, an academic medical center, or a major arts institution.
  • Ability to work with a minimum of day-to-day supervision.
  • Prior experience in a capital campaign.
  • Basic knowledge of commonly used gift planning strategies.
  • Ability to work closely with administrators, faculty, and volunteers.
  • Comfortable with a team approach to fundraising.
  • Understanding of and ability to articulate the mission and priorities of Bryn Mawr College.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
  • Experience and comfort in working with volunteers.
  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally, including transportation by air, train, and car.  Driver’s license and willingness to drive are a requirement.
  • Sense of humor and good problem solving skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the issues facing higher education today.
