"A two story and attic stone dwelling house with two story back
building rough cast. Situate on the south easterly side of
Chesnut (Walnut) Street on lot beginning 360 ft west of Morton
Street, 22nd ward, late borough of Germantown.
"Dimensions 39 ft 8 in front by 30 ft deep, back building 37 ft 3 in by 20 ft. Floors hemlock joist bridged with Carolina pine floorboards, the windows of main house with circular heads, white pine solid frame with beads 3 1/2 in by 9 1/2 in at the first story, double sash on hinges and opening down to floor, the windows finished square inside, 4 lights in each sash, glass thus
.....at front of hall a plank door frame with side lights and circular head transom, sash, doors white pine, Gothic.....Continued rail stairs to attic story.....
Parlor No. 1 has a large white marble mantel Gothic fireboard and register. No. 2 a marble shelf mantel, register in the partition, folding doors to dining room. Ceiling of hall and each parlor finished with stucco cornice and centre piece, a register in floor of halls and folding doors to parlor No. 1.....The dining room has an outdoor same as back of hall, register in the partition, marble shelf mantel, a flight of closed stairs of white pine boards to 2nd story.....and a flight of stairs under to cellar with door at the head. The kitchen has a large cooking range with boiler, a large kitchen dresser 5 doors 1 in. panel'd and two drawers, iron wash basin, closet under, water pipes for hot and cold water. The small kitchen, an out door same as other out doors, a gas oven.....Story 9 ft. Bells in kitchen.....
"Second story divided as shown on plot. The windows of front part sash, 8 lights, circular head, white pine frames, sash all double hung.....inside 1 in. panel'd shutters.....at the front of hall the window with side lights and sash opening to floor.....Front room over large parlor, marble mantel shelf, iron brackets, registers in flue, closet in the partition.....Room over parlor No. 2 large closet in the partition, register, marble shelf mantel, ceiling of each room finished with stucco cornice and centre piece, story 10 ft.
"Second story of back building communicating with the front house at 1st platform of stairs. Windows 8 lights, sguare head frame.....inside 1 in. panel'd shutters. Room over the dining room a large closet in the partition and 6 drawers at either side, and closet over the private stairway, a register in flue, marble shelf mantel. The room over the kitchen, closet in the partition and closet over the stairs. The bath room with bathtub, a shower and pipes for hot and cold water. the store room finished with shelves.....
"Attic story divided into an entry through the centre, 4 rooms and small room off front of entry.....a step ladder from entry to flat on roof, the window 4 lights thus:
"Gas pipes, bells, a heater in the cellar, a flat on peak of roof 6 ft by 13 ft with white pine post handrail and sawed baluster.....The main house has a 4 pitch tin roof with eaves and cornice projecting about 3 ft tin gutters and lined under the eaves, wood cornice, brackets under the eaves projecting 2 ft 7 in, and extending along the walls 3 1/2 ft. The back building a double pitch tin roof hip'd at the end.....a veranda front on back & one at either sied. Carolina floors, tin roof hip'd at the ends.....wood cornices, small saw'd brackets under the eaves about 16 in. apart, solid white pine columns 5 in square 11 1/2 long, open fancy circular brackets between the columns. Mortise locks at the room doors, mineral knobs, woodwork all well painted. House new and well finished."
