Early Projects by McClatchy
Pictures of the John McClatchy Building
Most of John McClatchy's advertisements didn't give much specific information (such as addresses), so finding out more about the homes he built was difficult. One of the resources used was the PAB--the Philadelphia Architects and Buildings--website. When the project was started the only message found on the search page was that information was "still being compiled." Because the PAB is constantly updating, a couple of weeks later information on a few addresses was available. Unfortunetly it's still not much, but this is what was found:

This particular information was taken from a website that was linked to PAB: the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, or PHMC. Although it doesn't appear to tell us much about McClatchy, it does show a business relationship with the architect Bart Tourison, which is something that could not be gleaned from the advertisements or city directory entry. The PAB information on Tourison is really helpful, should you be interested in learning about him as well. We were unable to find connections between McClatchy and Tourison on other projects, but do suspect that it's possible Tourison was working for him during the early years of his business. Our time spent researching was somewhat limited, and so we encourage others to look into the connection and see if any confirmation of this or proof to the contrary can be found.
Finally, the only drawings that could be found on file for McClatchy, are blueprints from the Cotswold House, another structure that we don't know much about. The holding information is available on PAB also, and the blueprints are available through the Borough of Swarthmore Administration Office [contact information].
