Taylor Watercolors at the
Intersection at Fifth and Lombard
Located among the various watercolors in the vast collection of Winterthur are a series of watercolors by Taylor. Very little is known about this artist as of yet, but it is intriguing that he chose the subjects that he had. These paintings represent a small percentage of images that depict existing buildings that are run down and on their way to being demolished. It is a mystery as to why Taylor has decided to illustrate these buildings. We have attmpted to determine some of the history behind the structures in them. We have been able to trace fire insurance information for all three of them as well as the names of their owners in 1861, the year in which these paintings were produced.
