The Montgomery County Hearing Voices Network is part of a relationally based, international human rights movement of people with lived experience of seeing, hearing, or sensing differently from most other people in their social environments. Some people may find these experiences distressing at times, and others may find them spiritually meaningful, natural, or joyful. Hearing Voices groups offer trustworthy spaces for mutual support for those with lived experience, while the network works inclusively as part of the broader community. Common values include recognition that these are human experiences—a part of life--and that each person has the freedom to understand their own experiences. The more all of us can practice listening and learning, and centering interdependence, the more we create deeper understandings and possibilities for social change. Several panelists will share their stories—recognizing that stories are not stagnant and that meaning emerges over time as we meet voices and each other relationally and with curiosity.
