Information Services Planning Site

Welcome to the IS Strategic Planning site.

This post is the third in a series of updates about the planning process that Information Services announced in May, 2007 that will help determine choices and future directions for core IT services (such as email, calendar, file storage and printing). This process will look at our services holistically and lay a foundation for an environment that better meets the needs of the community. Click here for further explanation of our scope and timeline.

Information Services is in the final stafe of reviewing requirements an email replacement, and we want to invite you to participate in a short survey if you haven't already.  You can find it at https://survey.brynmawr.edu/checkbox/Survey.aspx?surveyid=1433 until Wednesday, November 28th.

Our current systems are 10-15 years old, and we have been researching current technologies to replace them. We have narrowed down the integrated email and calendaring (a.k.a. “messaging”) to an open source product, an outsourcing option and a commercial package. Any of these three would provide a significant degree of improved service from our current email solution.

During the next month, we will be evaluating the three email options against the requirements that you and our research team have developed. The decision criteria include: 1) user functionality, 2) supportability, 3) trends / positioning for the future, 4) total cost of ownership and 5) Bryn Mawr suitability.

We will be making a recommendation to the President’s Cabinet and will send another update to the Bryn Mawr community in late January. At that time we expect to be able to share information about the email selection, the timeline for implementing, piloting and rolling out the changes.

On this site, we will be posting regular updates, including a list of requirements when that is consolidated.  We hope you will keep up with the process by visiting this site again. Please send an email with any comments or questions.
