Mary Blandy's crime, described earlier, was of enormous interest to the public, and she leapt into the pamphlet war surrounding her trial.  The prosecutor, in his opening statement to the jury, remarked, "For a Crime of so black a Dye, … I am not at all surprised at this vast Concourse of People, collected together to hear, and to see, the Tryal and Catastrophy of so execrable an Offender."  Blandy's own justification of her actions was among several accounts published.
