Mrs. Shuttleworth was convicted for beating her husband to death while she was intoxicated.  Her case offering no prurient details, the publisher was careful to mention one that did in his notice to the second edition: "The anxiety of the public to procure copies of the following trial, a trial which has not been equaled in interest in this county since the celebrated one of Catherine Nairn, at East Miln, near Forfar, for the murder of her husband and incest with his brother…"
