James Stuart and Nicholas Revett
The antiquities of Athens, measured and delineated, Volume III
London: John Nichols, [1794]
Gift of the Department of Classical and Near Eastern Archaeology

This illustration depicts the Monument of Philopappus in Athens. Stuart writes: "In the foreground Mr. Revett and myself are introduced with our friends Mr. James Dawkins and Mr. Robert Wood; the last of whom is occupied in copying the inscription on the pilaster. Our Janizary is making coffee, which we drank here; the boy, sitting down with his hand in a basket, attends with our cups and saucers. A goatherd with his goats and dogs are also represented."
