Searching for books or journals in print

Tripod - For locating books, journals, videos, and electronic resources held at Tri-College libraries. Delivery within trico - one or two day turnaround. Use "Request" or "Get" option. You can mark and then email or print records for multiple items.

WorldCat - A combined catalog of thousands of library catalogs.  For locating books and other materials from beyond the Tri-College Library system.

Interlibrary Loan and E-ZBorrow - The books and articles you need for your research may not be available within the Tri-Colleges. We have two systems available to help you retrieve the materials you need. See this page to place your requests.

English Language Tools

Use these basic reference tools to learn more about the English language and usage.  These materials are located in the reference area, with some older materials in the regular library stacks.

  • Dictionaries of American English: PE 1625
  • Thesauruses (for finding synonyms and antonyms): PE 1591
  • Dictionaries of idioms: PE 2839
  • Grammar reference tools: PE 1106

Russian Language Tools

Grammar books, dictionaries, etc. are located in Reference, in the regular stacks, and in the Manning Study. The call numbers range from PG 2000 to PG 2800.

Searching the Scholarly Literature

Use these resources to identify articles, books, conference papers, and dissertations in your areas of interest.

  • Linguistics and Language Behavior Abstracts (LLBA) - Contains abstracts of the world's literature in linguistics and language-related research, including journal articles, books, book reviews, dissertations and some conference proceedings. Includes historical, comparative, theoretical and social linguistics and related disciplines such as anthropology, education, and ethnology. Search for the subject "Russian as a Second Language." Covers 1973-present.
  • PsycInfo - Provides abstracts of journals, books, book chapters, technical reports and dissertations. Areas covered include psychology and related disciplines, sociology, linguistics, education, medicine, law, physiology, business, psychiatry, and anthropology. Covers 1887-present.
  • Sociological Abstracts: - Provides abstracts of journal articles, books, book chapters, dissertations and conference papers in the fields of sociology, social work and related disciplines in the social and behavioral sciences. Records added after 1972 contain in-depth abstracts of journal articles. Covers 1963-present.

Finding Articles in the Russian Language

  • Universal Databases: Central Newspapers and Social Sciences & Humanities - Offers full-text electronic versions of major Russian and other periodicals on the same day they are published. Includes archives of back issues of newspapers and journals (some go back to 1996). Disciplines covered include business, economics, foreign policy and political events in Russia and the former Soviet Union. May be searched using a Russian keyboard, or in transliteration.
