Working with Art Index and Art Retrospective: Rhys Carpenter Library
Art Index is now accessible via Wilsonweb Coverage: Index and abstracts from 1984 to the present. Selected full text from 1997 to the present. Art Index Retrospective has indexing from 1929 through 1983. Finding your way around: Check the boxes for Art Full Text and Art Retrospective in the bar at the top of the page. ( Readers' Guide Retro contains popular general-interest periodicals published in the United States from 1890-1982, and may include art-related articles). Notice the blue menu bar at the bottom of the screen; once you start searching, all your navigation options will appear there, including "next" and "previous," which move you through the results for your searches. Start your search with the blue button in the middle of the screen. Tips for searching Wilsonweb: The default search mode is "advanced search." The default search is labeled "All - Smart Search." This works best when you are not sure of the subject terms, or the best form of an artist's or author's name. If you are certain of the terms you wish to use, then use the pull-down menu and pick one of the typical searches: subject, keyword, title, or author. From there it is easy to combine different terms with the usual "and, or, not" operators. For more information consult Wilson's two-page PDF Quick Tip Sheet. Working with your Results: You can customize the display to choose brief or full records, and the number of records displayed. You can select specific records so only those will display, or mark them to then print them out or email them. For more information, consult Wilson's guide on working with your results. Here is another more detailed Quick Tip Sheet from Wilson.
