Disabling XPs built-in firewall

If you are using a computer with multiple users, log in to the computer as Administrator before you begin. For personal computers, this usually not a problem - the user is usually also the administrator. If you are unsure, follow the directions below and if at some point it alerts you that you must log in as Administrator, do so.

Open the Control Panel by clicking on it in the Start Menu. Depending on the layout you are using in XP, the link may be found under Settings, or in the Start Menu.

Double click the Network Connections icon

Find the icon labelled Local Area Connection and Right click on it. This should bring up a menu. From this menu, select Status.

Click the button labelled Properties.

At the top of the window that appears, click the Advanced tab.

One of the options (or usually the only) in the Advanced window is called Internet Connection Firewall. Make sure this option is unchecked.

Restart the computer and try the Quicktime links again. If this process does not work, please send an e-mail to llc@brynmawr.edu
