Should we have a Redo option for the second midterm?
#Response DateComments
.11/6/2008 2:54:00 AMIt really helped me in the areas where I was confused. I feel like I have mastered the material better and have learned more.
.11/6/2008 3:06:00 AMI thought this was a great way to show to really show what we learned and have the chance to take time to really understand since not everyone learns at the same pace.
.11/6/2008 3:22:00 AMI would find it very helpful! Even if we don't, I hope to implement the "Redo method" on my own, but having it "mandated' in some way would help me make sure I truly get the material.
.11/6/2008 3:31:00 AMIt is such a great opportunity for us to learn from our mistakes. Especially those of us who want to continue on to Calc II in the Spring.
.11/6/2008 3:39:00 AMPlease. It helps in making us understand concepts better
.11/6/2008 4:21:00 AMThis is was a great idea! In high school we did not go over previous tests so i would continue to make he same mistakes later. I think this will happen much less if we continue to have the option to take a redo.
.11/6/2008 4:22:00 AMIf the goal is to really understand the material, there is nothing like losing points to make someone really understand something. Also, this helps with any problems understanding test format or directions.
.11/6/2008 5:11:00 AMI would say yes because of my limited abilities in math. However, I do believe now that I can expect how a math test may be organized I won't be so nervous and scared of the next one. I also think that the help I am getting will show on the next test. I say yes because taking a redo doesn't have to have a negative connotation if you don't want it to. while math might come easy, for others it doesn't and I can honestly say I am one of those others.
.11/6/2008 5:28:00 AMYES!!! Second chances are awesome, and they allow us students not to feel penalized for misunderstanding. Instead, we feel better about correcting our mistakes and receiving a change in grade to reflect that new understanding. I highly recommend keeping the redo option.
.11/6/2008 2:37:00 PMits bery helpful because one is able to understand the concepts applied in calculus effectively
.11/6/2008 4:42:00 PMI think it is important to have a redo option so that students can make sure they fully understand the concept, as well as have the opportunity to get a better grade. Tests can go badly for a number of reasons, not only not understanding the material.
.11/6/2008 6:39:00 PMYes and no. I really like the redo option, but I feel maybe if we had some quizes on the material to test our understanding before the second midterm there wont be a need for a redo.
.11/6/2008 10:21:00 PMI would say yes just so that there is the option, however I also don't think people should solely rely on the redo (meaning they shouldn't even study).
.11/7/2008 2:28:00 AMPersonally, I did well on the mid-term and it makes me a little upset that I did it right the first time, but may still get the same grade as people that got a second chance. In high school I was required to redos for no credit, it was simply counted as a homework assignment. However, I think it would be helpful if you let us redo homework assignments for full credit because they do not count for as much as the test but instead encourage us see what we got wrong and figure out our problems before the test.
.11/7/2008 4:06:00 AMMost definitely! I felt so much better when I took the midterm the second time, not just because it could improve my grade, but also because I was so unsure the first time...but after correcting my test, doing the review problems, and just having a little extra time to wrap my mind around the concepts, I found the redo easy and even fun.
.11/7/2008 4:48:00 AMI'm not sure how scoring goes for the redo, but I believe you get full points back for the problems you correct on the redo if you get them correct? If this is the case, I feel like it might be more fair to only give partial credit back so you are more rewarded for knowing how to do the problem the first time.
.11/7/2008 1:35:00 PMIt was really helpful and I feel much better about calculus now.
.11/9/2008 6:30:00 AMi do not know.
.11/9/2008 6:31:00 PMthough i did not use the option of the redo this midterm, i think that the option should remain as i like knowing that i could take the test again, both to better my grade and understanding of the material
