How Students Learn: Ch. 1, p. 1- 25. (Much overlap with HPL; look for the new material).

Teaching for Conceptual Change: Confronting Children's Experience. Watson, B, Konicek, R. Phi Delta Kappan. May 1990 pp. 680 – 685.

Reaction Paper: 1-2 page response to the reading and to the material of the first class.

What caught your attention? What did you not understand/find confusing?

Writing: Write a 2-3 page paper describing your good learning experience and why it was good. Make linkages to the material in HPL (3 key principles, classroom environments).

Field Placements: Get finger prints taken for FBI.

Wk 2: Jan 30, 2008

Write a 2-4 page reaction paper in which you think about connections between Prof. Grobstein’s presentation and the key principles of how people learn (including motivation #0 and personal connection with teacher #4). Post to Blackboard Discussion Board/reflection section by 5 pm on Tuesday February 5^th. Research your topic on the national/international setting for math/science reform. Give 5 – 10 minute presentation. Give a one page handout that summarizes your findings.
