Alert! There's an error on the final exam. Problem 4b is supposed to refer to the same vector field as problem 4a, but instead it mentions a different vector field. (Sorry!) So, you have a choice: use whichever vector field you like, but please make clear what you're doing.

This is the home page for Math 201, Section 3 (9 am).

11/29/04 12:50pm - The problem session is ON for tonight, Monday, 8pm. Maybe we'll have our own room, or maybe there will be directions on the door sending you somewhere nearby. Thanks to Christina. ALSO: Don't overlook the corrections to homework 13. In problem M, the last point mentioned should be (1,0), NOT (0,1). (That makes a big difference!) Also, the matching problems in section 17.1 are 11-14, NOT 12-15.

11/28/04 - THE LAST HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT is posted below. It's due on Monday, Dec. 6; don't forget the detailed project plans due on the same day.

11/21/04 - Homeworks 12 and 13 [11/28: hw 13 now has two corrections] are posted below. As of 6pm Sunday, the correct version of homework 12 is up in place of the half-baked placeholder.

11/14/04 - The projects announcement is posted, along with homework 12 on double integrals and coordinate shifts.

11/11/04 - I have finally posted homework 11, and homeworks 9 and 10, below. Also quiz 3 with answers.

10/19/04 - The in-class worksheets on partial derivatives and the chain rule are posted below. They're due to Prof. Victor Donnay.

10/19/04 - My answer to homework 5, distance from LA to Montreal: 2464 miles.

10/16/04 - Homework 8 is posted, including a schedule for the remaining weeks.

10/12/04 - The problem session is definitely ON for Sunday, 8-9 as usual. The building will be open. The ex-Thursday problem sessions will be on Friday, 5-6pm, Park 336, starting 10/22.

10/3/04 - Homework 7 is posted, along with homework 6 and homework 6 answers (see below).

9/28/04 - Here are answers to homework 4 (WORD doc, 2 pages) and a solution to problem F (homework 3). Also, Quiz 2 and answers to it are posted below.

9/23/04 - Handout on coordinate systems (WORD document) for 9/24 posted below.

9/22/04 - EXAM on Wednesday 9/29, covering Sections 13.1-13.5, 14.1-14.2, 15.1-15.2, but not 13.7 or 15.3. We'll try to start at 9, not 9:10, and give everyone 60 minutes, with reasonable accomodations for those with conflicts (warn me asap). Monday is quiz + review.

This Friday's topic will be different coordinate systems, including the spherical and cylindrical coordinate systems in Section 13.7 and also some strange systems.

9/21/04 - QUIZ on Monday 9/27: (1) a linear approximation problem (2) something from 15.1 or 15.2. Here's 4-page handout on linear approximations (for class 9/22): WORD version or HTML version.

Also: Don't forget Art Benjamin's presentation, 8pm Monday. It's in Park 243, the Physics Lecture Hall. He is also giving the Bi-College Math Colloquium talk, Monday at 4pm in Park 328, on ways to use determinants to count things.

9/21/04 - Homework 4 is now posted.

9/15/04 - Homework 3 is now posted in the document section.

9/15/04 - Art Benjamin will give a presentation on math and magic, at Bryn Mawr, on September 27 at 8pm. (Where?)

9/8/04 - The grader says your homework #1 is essentially perfect. (The homework is going to get harder and the class faster.)

9/8/04 - One problem added to HW#2: Section 13.5, problem 1 (all parts).
The problem is a list of true-false statements; all you have to do is answer "true" or "false" for each --- you don't need to write explanations. Write "true" if the statement is always true, for all lines, planes, etc. If it's sometimes true and sometimes false (depending on what planes you choose) then say "false." We'll vote on whether we agree with the text on all of them.

9/7/04 - Welcome! I'll manage this section like a rough weblog: I'll feel free to edit the most transient remarks, and leave other remarks on the page in reverse chronological order. Below are links to course documents (serious and trivial).

9/7/04 - Quiz 1 answers

9/7/04 - Homework 2 is here. (The web version is revised to include one problem from 13.5.)

8/30/04 - Problems we'll talk about in class Wednesday: Sec. 13.1, ## 13 and 15.
