The
College recognizes that returning to school, particularly when choosing
as rigorous a program as Bryn Mawr's, provides an exceptional challenge
to women who may have many responsibilities in their lives that traditional-aged
students do not. Academic advising, faculty support and access to
a variety of administrative services can ease this balancing act for
students.

Academic
Advising
Academic work in the program is planned in consultation with Assistant
Dean and McBride Program Director Rona Pietrzak and paced according
to the needs and circumstances of each student. We recommend that
a first-semester McBride enroll in no more than two courses; after
that, she may choose to take one, two, three, or four courses each
semester. After a student selects her major, she is assigned a faculty
adviser in the major who helps her plan her sequence of courses. |

Faculty
McBrides have access to one of the finest faculties in the country.
Because Bryn Mawr is a small university, the school attracts excellent
professors who are genuinely interested in their students' success.
They are accessible, supportive, and actively involved in their teaching;
the exchange of ideas between faculty and students is a source of
inspiration on both sides. Members of the faculty recognize the unique
qualities that McBrides bring to Bryn Mawr's campus and are enthusiastic
about McBride participation in their classes. Bryn Mawr's student/faculty
ratio of 10:1 allows students and faculty to work closely together
and to know each other well.

Housing
Most McBrides continue to live locally or rent apartments in the vicinity
of the campus, traveling to and from Bryn Mawr by car or on the local
commuter train. For those interested in residing at the College, however,
housing is available, under either a 12-month or 9-month option, at
Glenmede, which is approximately one-half mile from the main campus.
(Frequent shuttle bus service runs between the Glenmede complex and
the main campus.) McBrides and graduate students may choose, on a
space-available basis, between two small cooperative houses - the
Gate House (three residents) or the Gardener's Cottage (four residents)
- or a more traditional dormitory arrangement in the Carriage House
(eleven students). Traditionally-aged undergraduates are housed in
the Main House, which is the fourth residence on the estate. The College
provides basic furniture, but students must supply their own linen,
bed pillows, desk lamps, rugs, and curtains. Glenmede residents are
advised by the Senior Resident, who is responsible to the Director
of Residential Life and to the Graduate and McBride Deans.
There is no college dining service at Glenmede itself. Residents may
take advantage of the kitchen facilities available in each of the
Glenmede buildings, or can purchase meal tickets, or contract for
the complete meal plan for the College dining halls on campus. All
students residing at Glenmede will be automatically enrolled in the
College's Health Center insurance plan.

Child
Care
McBrides make their own child care arrangements at home, in child
care centers, or arrange privately for paid child care on campus.
|
| |
Health
Insurance
All students must have health insurance. McBrides may enroll in the
College Student Health Insurance Program or maintain private coverage.

Parking
Convenient on-campus parking is available for a nominal fee. The College
is accessible by public transportation and is a five-minute walk from
the local commuter train station. |
