Stephen Salkever Named Fellow of National Humanities Center

Why have some contemporary philosophers looked to the ancients for a method of theorizing politics that is sensitive to the rapidly changing cultural contexts of modernity? A Bryn Mawr professor will investigate that question as a fellow of the National Humanities Center.

		New Faculty: Sara Bressi Nath Investigates Health-Care Issues and Severe Mental Illness "Negotiating the health-care system in the United States is difficult for nearly everyone," says Assistant Professor of Social Work and Social Research Sara Bressi Nath. "So imagine how hard it would be if you had a major mental illness."

Academic Awards Announced on May Day At May Day Convocation on Sunday, May 6, President Nancy J. Vickers announced the winners of a host of awards made to Bryn Mawr students. The list of more than 50 awards and scholarships includes honors bestowed by Bryn Mawr as well as those given by outside organizations.

Bryn Mawr Sophomore Leads Effort to Honor Virginia Tech Victims Sara Khasawinah '09 organized the PA-VA Tech Solidarity Project, which is selling t-shirts that display the logos of 33 Pennsylvania colleges and universities to benefit scholarship funds in memory of those who died in the Viriginia Tech shootings. Khasawinah was featured recently in The Philadelphia Inquirer and on Philadelphia's Fox TV affiliate. The shirts are available through the participating colleges' bookstores, including the Bryn Mawr College Bookshop.

		Archaeology Graduate Student Wins Fulbright to Study in Athens Catherine Person, a doctoral candidate in classical and Near Eastern archaeology, is one of three people worldwide who have won a 2007-08 Fulbright grant to fund a full year at the American School of Classical Studies in Athens.

		Fulbright Winner Indira Neill '07: A Sharp Eye on Culture Indira Neill has an interesting hypothesis about why she will be especially effective as a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant in Bremen, Germany, next year. She's perfect for the job, she says, because she doesn't have a natural talent for languages.

		Anthropology Professor Philip Kilbride Awarded Fulbright to Study in the Czech Republic To the list of 2007-08 Bryn Mawr Fulbright winners, add Professor and Chair of Anthropology Philip Kilbride, who will spend the spring of 2008 teaching, writing and doing research in the Czech Republic.

		Fulbright Winner Hanna Reiss: When Healing Styles Collide Anthropology major Hannah Reiss '07 will use her Fulbright fellowship to conduct an ethnographic study of the health-care choices made by pregnant women on a remote Indonesian island.

		Cities Professor Carola Hein Wins Guggenheim Fellowship to Fund Study of the Global Architecture of Oil Carola Hein has won a 2007 Guggenheim Fellowship, awarded by the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, on the basis of "distinguished achievement in the past and exceptional promise for future accomplishment."

		A Herd of Frisky Robots Illustrates the Appeal of an Innovative Computer Science Curriculum Twenty-four blue "Scribbler" robots were dancing, drawing and making music in a Park Science Building classroom as students showed off what they've accomplished in a groundbreaking computing course.
