On May 16, 2002, members of the math and science faculties of Bryn Mawr, Haverford and Swarthmore Colleges met to share ideas about the teaching of math and science on our three campuses. Continuing the tradition of the first Tri-College symposium, the meeting featured talks from community members and included ample time for small group and personal interactions to help develop bonds among faculty from the three colleges.

This year we were able to expand the scope of the meeting to include math teaching as well as science teaching. Our discussions demonstrated common bonds among the various disciplines and have already inspired collaboration among tri-college faculty. Future discussions should continue this tradition.

The meeting, again funded by the NSF grant "Building Bridges" (to Bryn Mawr College), was organized to continue to facilitate interactions among science and math faculty in the tri-college community. Once again we were able to share our ideas for increasing student understanding as well as compare our experiences with student difficulties.

The format of the symposium included presentations and small group discussions. Discussion topics were developed based on the stated interests of the attendees. Please note that these overviews do not capture the animated and lively discussions but they do summarize the main ideas.

The meeting was organized by Lisa Chirlian (Bryn Mawr College). While the Building Bridges grant is complete in 2002 we hope to continue to hold this event on an annual basis. If you are interested in participating in planning the next Tri-College Math/Science Teaching Symposium, please contact Lisa Chirlian at Bryn Mawr College.
