In 2006-07, more than 40 percent of Bryn Mawr juniors studied abroad. Bryn Mawr encourages eligible students to consider studying abroad for a semester as a part of their undergraduate education, subject to the requirements of their majors and enrollment at the College. Study abroad can enhance students' language skills, broaden their academic preparation, introduce them to new cultures, and enhance their personal growth and independence.

The College has approved about 75 programs in colleges and universities in other countries. During the academic year 2006-2007, 113 students enrolled in one-semester and 16 students enrolled in academic-year study abroad programs. Fifty three percent of these students received financial aid from the College for their overseas study. Another 30 students studied abroad during the summer months.

The students attended 48 different programs in 24 countries, of which 9 were programs approved by petition. Nearly 45 percent of the students studied in foreign-language settings where French, German, Italian, Mandarin Chinese, Russian, and Spanish were the languages of instruction. The most popular countries were the United Kingdom (35), France (22), Italy (16), , Denmark (9), Spain (8), and Egypt (7). Students also attended programs in Argentina, Australia, Botswana, Chile, China, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Japan, Jordan, Kenya, Russia, Senegal, and South Africa.

Study-abroad students major in a variety of subjects in the humanities, the social sciences, and natural sciences.  The majors sending the largest number of students are Political Science (20), English (14), Psychology (14), Economics (11), Growth and Structure of Cities (11), Anthropology (9), and French and French Studies (9).
