May
15, 2005:
The Bryn Mawr Varsity 8 ended thier season with a great race in the Petite
final of the Dad Vail Regatta. The crew was seeded 11th out of the 12
boats entered in the Division II/III Varsity 8 event. Bryn Mawr raced
to a 8th place finish overall and 3rd among the Division III crews. The
Bryn Mawr Varsity 4 beat Dowling College, the only other non-division
I crew in thier heat. The 4 had a great race but was unable to qualify
for the next round of races in the Women's Varsity 4 event.
In addition to some great racing on the river, the Bryn Mawr Rowing program
celebrated the "raising of the BMC Crew Tent" at the Dad Vail
Regatta. Tom and Lucy Miller, parents of McCurdy Miller '08, led the campaign
to raise the funds for this beautiful bright yellow tent. Parents of the
program came through generously and quickly in support of this effort
to have "a place to gather along the river and cheer for the Bryn
Mawr Crews."
The tent also served as a garden party space for our 2004/2005 co-captain
and graduating senior, Avery Miller. The members of the JV 8 and Varsity
4 decorated the tent with flowers and steamers for the garden party ombiance
between the morning heats and afternoon finals. Many thanks to Ray Tharan,
members of the team and the parents who helped put up and take down the
crew tent at this regatta. In addition to this, a special thanks from
the team to Greg and Rita Confair for suppling us with additional food
and drinks at the boathouse and the tent. We look forward to seeing everyone
again, under the tent, next fall in Philadelphia and Boston.
