Come share your experiences, voice your opinions, or just listen to how people view interracial dating and how people's perspectives on the issue affects your personal life. We will start off with an activity bringing awareness to the ubiquity of the issue, have lots of time for discussion, and wrap up with statistics of interracial marriages in the US and the world. There will be pizza, popcorn, veggie trays, cookies, and soda.
There was an incredible turn out at this discussion. Thanks to everyone who came and sorry for those of you that had to sit on the floor - every chair was taken! Interesting points people brought up during the discussion:
-If interracial dating is becoming more acceptable, then is inter-religious dating still the more divisive factor?
-Are you racist for preferring to date people only from your race?
-Does the fact that different races are "acceptable" for dating help perpetuate stereotypes and racism?
-How do you deal with interracial dating if you're Caucasian and you feel your race is the "absence of culture"?
-How do you preserve your culture in an interracial marriage?
-If you are a mix of Caucasian and minority descent, then do your children lose out on your minority heritage if you marry a Caucasian?

"Lucy Liu Discussion" - Controversy over her character being mixed in the sequel to Charlie's Angels (9:30pm Tuesday, November 4th)
The discussion will focus on Lucy Liu's character in the Charlie's Angel sequel. Please come and share your thoughts on how mixedness is portrayed in the media and whether changing the script from an Asian father and Jewish mother to a Caucasion father and Asian female adds to the controversy. ASA will be joining us to give another perspective.
