Bharath Vallabha joined the department in 2008. He thinks mainly about questions in the philosophy of mind and religion. Regarding the mind, he is interested in topics such as: How is consciousness related to the lived, engaged body? Does thinking require being part of a community? How is human thought similar to and different from animal cognition? Regarding religion, he thinks about questions such as: Are reason and faith compatible? Is a neutral, non-question begging conversation possible between a theist and an atheist? What is the nature of experiences such as living in the moment?
In addition to the above topics, his teaching interests include ancient and modern philosophy, metaphysics, existentialism, and multiculturalism.
