Staff and Faculty Services
These services are available to most Bryn Mawr College faculty and staff.
Office Phone Line When possible, the college provides a phone line for faculty and staff members. Generally the college provides analog (one line) service to offices. Some staff members receive digital (multiple line) service dependent upon need. The phone line is typically a DID or Direct Inward Dial line. This type of line allows community members to receive calls directly without being transferred from an operator.
Voice Mail If requested, each faculty and staff member can receive an individual mail box on the college’s voice mail system. The mail box must be configured to receive messages. Generally messages cannot be stored more than 30 days. Some of the college’s phone equipment comes with a message indicator. When this is the case, the message indicator will notify users of new messages. If the equipment provided does not include a message indicator, audible message notifications will be used. Voice Mail Quick Tips.
Phone Equipment The college attempts to provide all faculty and staff members with the functional equipment for business purposes. This may include an analog (one line) phone, or a digital (multiple line) phone. The college has developed several equipment policies to help meet the needs of the community yet remain fiscally responsible. They include the following:
Courtesy Phones Courtesy phones are phones placed in shared common areas available for public use. These phones can be used to contact Public Safety, place on campus calls, or place off campus calls in conjunction with a pin number or calling card.
Emergency Phones Emergency phones are yellow call boxes mounted outside of all campus buildings. These phones generally have a red “Help” button that contacts Public Safety here on campus directly. They can also be used to place campus only calls.
Technical support When necessary, faculty and staff may contact the Telephone Services Department to report a problem with a phone line, voice mail box, equipment failure or any other telephone service on campus. You may also contact the office to request a phone line move, install, or change. Please notify the office at least 3 business days in advance of the request. The more notice that is provided, the more likely the request can be met on time. There is no fee for technical support trouble calls. Report a Problem.
Cell Phone Services / Support The college attempts to provide cell phone services to all Bryn Mawr faculty and staff members who are on an on-call status. Standard equipment is provided based on need. The Telephone Services department in conjunction with management determines need and selects equipment to be distributed. The college has implemented several cell phone policies in an effort to address community needs. They include:
(All faculty and staff cell users are asked to be conservative and use best judgment when placing cell calls. While there are currently no usage guidelines, we ask all members of the community to utilize cell services when no other options are present.)
Departmental Phone Records Monthly, the Telephone Services office will provide all campus phone records to each department. These records should be reviewing for accuracy, and abuse. If you have concerns about the phone records, please contact smacwill@brynmawr.edu or abattle@brynmawr.edu.
Conference Calling Byrn Mawr College provides several options for conference calls. The Telephone Services department can lend a polycom conference phone unit for conferencing. This analog unit can be plugged into an analog line and used to connect up to three parties on a conference call. Digital desk phones also provide the same function and can be used to conference up to six parties. For conferences larger than six, a 3rd party vendor may be used. Please contact smacwill@brynmawr.edu or abattle@brynmawr.edu for additional information.
Training Upon request, Telephone Services can provide manuals, individual training, or group training sessions. If you would like to learn more about your phone or voice mail, contact us today. Faculty and Staff Services |
