BRYN MAWR COLLEGE

Handbook for Faculty

Privileges for Emeritus Members of the Faculty

Research Professorships
The College is pleased to be able to confer on retired or retiring professors the title of Research Professor. Those individuals who wish to have the title of Research Professor should write to the Provost at least every other year, detailing their researches over the past two years and outlining their scholarly plans for coming years. Upon receipt of such a research plan the Provost, after consultation with the President, will confirm the use of the title in writing for the ensuing two years. A retired professor is eligible for an indefinite number of renewals of that title.

Library
Emeritus faculty retain all faculty borrowing privileges including InterLibrary Loan and tri-college borrowing. Reserve lists are accepted and reserves posted for all teaching faculty. Thus if an emeritus member of the faculty is teaching a course, the library will set up course reserves upon request.

Faculty who are academically active (teaching, involved in research) have first priority for assignment of faculty carrels for Canaday and Collier Libraries. They are expected to submit a request for carrel assignment to the Chair of the Faculty Library Committee. An application request for the use of faculty carrel is usually mailed to emeritus faculty in late Spring. Assignments may be for a summer, a semester or for an academic year, depending upon the request. Emeritus faculty members who wish to have a carrel in Carpenter should consult the Carpenter carrel policy.

Computing
Emeritus faculty e-mail accounts are extended as long as the faculty member wants them. For information on offsite e-mail access, press here. Computer support. Computing Services is not able to provide emeriti with computer support
