Instructions for using exposure.exe 1. Exposure.exe takes as input a data file that must be named "exposure.txt" (data must be saved as text file) and must be located in the same folder as exposure.exe. The first row in the data file is "2" (the number of types, majority and minority), blank space, then the number of units observed (e.g. lunch groups, teams, pedestrian groups). Note that data input is space-delimited, not comma or tab delimited. The second and succeeding rows give the number of majority and number of minority individuals observed in each unit, and the number of rows after the first must equal the number of units specified in the first line. In the second and succeeding rows, number of majority and number of minority are separated by a blank space (i.e. space-delimited). 2. After downloading Exposure.exe, you should download "Exposure.txt" from the web page into same folder as Exposure.exe, then double-click on Exposure.exe and you should get message saying "bootstrapping" and then observed and expected exposure indexes for majority to minority and majority and for minority to majority and minority The bootstrapped sampling distributions will be displayed, and, in the case of these test data, observed and expected will be significantly different, as noted by label "overexposed" or "underexposed" (p<.05 two tailed test, with probability taken directly from the relevant sampling distribution. 3. If you cannot get the test data to run, try another PC before giving up. 4. If you still cannot get the test data to run, email cmccaule@brynmawr.edu
