Publicizing Campus Events: Online Calendar

Entering your event in the College's online calendar is one of the most important things you can do to let people know about your event.

To submit an event to the calendar, go to the calendar page at www.brynmawr.edu/
calendar/
. Toward the bottom of the left-hand column, you will find a link that says “Submit an Event.” Clicking on the link will bring you to an online form.

Tips for using the calendar effectively:

  • Act fast. Enter your event as soon as you are certain of its date and time. The more advance notice you give, the more likely it is that people will see your calendar entry before the event happens.

  • Prioritize information. Make sure the most important information about the event — that is, what is most likely to attract people — is in the “title” box rather than the “subtitle” box. The words in the title line will appear in much larger and more visible type. If your organization is sponsoring a well-known performer, the performer's name, not the name of the sponsoring organization, should be entered in the title field.

  • Give a brief description of the event (or the speaker or the performer) in the “additional information” field. People who don't recognize the name of a speaker might still be interested after reading a sentence or two about the topic.

  • Link to further information. If there's a Web page that gives more information about your event, copy its URL into the “Event Web Site” box. This will create a link to the page in the calendar entry. Remember to type the whole URL (for example: http://www.brynmawr.edu/
    genderconference.shtml).

  • Use the automatic activities-list posting. Click the "Submit to Activities ListServ" button at te end of the Web form ensures that your event appears in a convenient digest sent to subscribers daily.
